Raising awareness / Anne Lamott / Artistic ambitions

Raising awareness  April is sexual assault awareness month. Today on Insight, you'll meet a Sacramento woman who was raped last year by a cruise ship employee while aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Laurie Dishman tells you about her ordeal and why she recently testified about it before Congress.

Anne Lamott  The author of "Operating Instructions," a memoir about her first year of being a single parent, and "Bird by Bird," her practical book on the art of writing, has a new book out. "Grace (Eventually)" is the third essay collection in Anne Lamott's "Thoughts on Faith" series. The popular Marin County author tells you about the new book and what led her to write this particular series.

Anne Lamott speaks and signs books at 7 pm today at Borders, 2339 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento. Information: (916) 564-0168.

Artistic ambitions  Sacramento artist and Department of Education employee Steve Yee has visions of a museum dedicated to Chinese laborers who lived and worked in the area as part of the downtown railyard development project. He'll tell you about his plans and about an exhibit of his work currently on display at the Triangle Gallery in San Francisco.

Steve Yee's work is on display through April 28 at the Triangle Gallery, 47 Kearny St., San Francisco. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Information: (415) 392-1686.
